Calgary police information check or MyCheck: what is the difference?
In Alberta, police services issue a police information check, which goes further than a criminal record check and can include police contact that never led to a charge. The Calgary Police Service does not list a convictions-only check. Here is how the two compare.

Calgary Police or RCMP: who polices where you live?
The Calgary Police Service polices the City of Calgary. Most communities around it are policed by the RCMP, each through its own detachment, and most detachments only do record checks for people in their own area.

Which check do you need?
Most jobs, agencies, landlords and general volunteer roles accept a criminal record check, which is what we do. Two other checks get asked for in Calgary, and only police or an accredited agency can issue them.
Vulnerable sector check
Roles working with children, seniors or other vulnerable people need a vulnerable sector check. Only police can issue one, and only where you live: CPS in Calgary, your RCMP detachment outside the city. It may involve fingerprints.
Fingerprint-certified check
Immigration, visa and citizenship applications, record suspensions and most uses outside Canada need fingerprint-certified results. Our check also does not include convictions recorded by the Canada Border Services Agency or US Customs.

Yes, two ways. The Calgary Police Service takes police information check applications online from Calgary residents and processes them in date order, with no published timeframe. MyCheck is a separate option: a criminal record check you complete entirely online, issued by an accredited police service after a search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Most MyCheck checks complete in minutes.
Is MyCheck the Calgary Police Service portal?

Is a police check from MyCheck the same as a Calgary police information check?
No. A police information check is the check Alberta police services issue. How much does a police check cost in Calgary?
CPS lists $75 for employment, adoption, immigration or other purposes, and $25 for volunteers or unpaid practicums with a letter from the organisation. Can I apply in person in Calgary?
At CPS, yes, at Westwinds headquarters, 5111 47 St. N.E., Monday to Friday. CPS processes in-person and online applications in the same date order, so going in does not make it faster. MyCheck is online only, and there is nowhere to go.
I live in Airdrie, Cochrane or Okotoks. Can I still order?
Yes. The search is national, so a MyCheck criminal record check works the same anywhere in the Calgary region. Where you live matters if you apply to police: CPS only takes Calgary residents, and nearby RCMP detachments generally only take people in their own area. Airdrie RCMP says Rocky View County applications take about two to four weeks, and Okotoks RCMP quotes one to three weeks.
I want to coach or volunteer at my child's school. Which check do I need?
Usually a vulnerable sector check, because the role involves children. The organisation decides, so ask them first. In Calgary that check comes from CPS, which charges $25 for volunteers with a letter from the organisation, and fingerprinting is free for volunteers with a letter. I need a vulnerable sector check. Can you do it?
No. Only police can issue a vulnerable sector check, and no private provider can. In Calgary, that is the Calgary Police Service. Outside the city, it is your RCMP detachment. Read our guide to vulnerable sector checks.

Level 2 adds outstanding charges and warrants, discharges within their disclosure windows, Youth Criminal Justice Act findings and court orders.
