Can I get a criminal record check in Ontario online?

Most checks complete in minutes. A vulnerable sector check is the exception: it has to come from the police service that polices where you live.
What is the difference between a criminal record check and a criminal background check in Ontario?
People use both terms for the same thing. Strictly, a criminal record check is one part of a background check. A full background check for a job can also include references, employment history and education, which the employer arranges. If someone asked you for a criminal background check or a background check, they almost always mean a criminal record check, and that is what you order here.
Is there a free online criminal record check in Ontario?

What is a Level 2 criminal record check in Ontario?
In Ontario it is called a criminal record and judicial matters check. On top of criminal convictions, it includes outstanding charges and warrants, discharges within their disclosure windows, Youth Criminal Justice Act findings and court orders. It costs $49. Order it if the organisation asked for Level 2 or for a judicial matters check.
How do I get a criminal record check for employment in Ontario?
Order online, pick Level 1 unless your employer named Level 2, verify your ID from your phone, and forward the certificate when it arrives. The certificate comes to you first, so you choose when and with whom to share it.
Do I need an OPP check or a check from my local police?
For a MyCheck criminal record check, it does not matter. The search runs against the national RCMP repository, so the result is the same wherever you live in Ontario. It only matters for a vulnerable sector check, which must come from the police service that polices where you live, whether that is a municipal service, a regional service or the OPP.
How long does an Ontario criminal record check take?
Most checks complete in minutes. The rest are usually back within 4 hours. Timing depends on how accurately you enter your details. In a small number of cases the search cannot be resolved on name and date of birth, and fingerprint confirmation is advised. That is done in person and takes longer.
How much does a criminal record check cost in Ontario?
Level 1 is $39 CAD and Level 2 is $49 CAD. Identity verification is included in both, and there is no access fee. The price at checkout is the price you pay.
Will my Ontario employer accept it?
Most will. Your certificate is issued by a police service and names the issuing service, the date and the officer's ID. It is the same document employers receive when they order through Credibled. If the role involves vulnerable people, ask whether they need a vulnerable sector check instead.
Can I use it for a vulnerable sector check or for immigration?
No to both. Only your local police service can issue a vulnerable sector check. Our check does not include convictions recorded by the Canada Border Services Agency or US Customs, so it may not suit immigration, visa or citizenship applications.
Who sees my result?
You do. The certificate is delivered to you and nobody else. It is not sent to an employer unless you send it.
Can I get a refund?
No. Checks are non-refundable once submitted, which is why this page explains which check you need before you order. If you are unsure between Level 1 and Level 2, ask whoever requested it first.
