Three ways to get it

City police, your RCMP detachment or MyCheck: what is the difference?

In Saskatchewan, a city police service only does criminal record checks for people who live in that city. Everyone else goes to their RCMP detachment. Here is how the options compare.

If your local fee is lower and you can wait, that is a perfectly good option. MyCheck is for when you need a criminal record check today, for a job, an agency or a lease, without a drive to the detachment or a two-week wait. If the organisation asking has named a police service, or needs a vulnerable sector check, apply to the police service where you live.

Employment fees: Prince Albert $35, Estevan $40, Regina and Saskatoon $45, Moose Jaw and Weyburn $50. From each police service's record check page, and RCMP-area fees from the City of Swift Current and City of Yorkton, checked 13 October 2026. Several city services charge volunteers $10 to $20 or nothing.

Which police service is yours?

City police or RCMP: who polices where you live in Saskatchewan?

The RCMP is Saskatchewan's provincial police. Six cities have their own police service, and a few smaller communities have one too.

For a MyCheck criminal record check, none of this changes anything. The search is national, so you order the same way from anywhere in Saskatchewan. It matters for a vulnerable sector check, which only the police service that covers where you live can do.

What you get

A police-issued certificate, in your inbox

Your result is a dated certificate in 3 parts, issued by an accredited police service. It goes to you, not to an employer, and you decide who sees it.

  1. 1
Applicant informationThe legal name, date of birth and address the search was run against, and the type of ID used to verify you.
  2. 2
Criminal record checklistThe result, stated against the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Nothing found reads Negative here, and Cleared as the overall result.
  3. 3
Issuing agency informationThe police service that issued it, the date issued, the serial number and the issuing officer's ID. This is what makes it stand up when someone asks where it came from.

A criminal record check is a point-in-time search. It reflects the record on the day it was run.

Two levels

Level 1 or Level 2?

If the organisation asking has named a level, order that one. If not, Level 1 is what most job applications ask for. Level 1 answers whether you have a conviction. Level 2 also answers whether anything is currently outstanding.

A quick check before you order

Which check do you need?

Most jobs, agencies, landlords and general volunteer roles accept a criminal record check, which is what we do. Two other checks get asked for in Saskatchewan, and only police or an accredited agency can issue them.

What we do

Criminal record check

Your name and date of birth searched against the RCMP National Repository by an accredited police service. Accepted by most employers, staffing agencies, landlords and general volunteer roles.

Police only

Vulnerable sector check

Roles working with children, seniors or other vulnerable people need a vulnerable sector check. Only the police service or RCMP detachment that covers where you live can do it, and city police only do them for residents 18 and over. It may involve fingerprints.

Accredited agency

Fingerprint-certified check

Immigration, visa and citizenship applications, record suspensions and most uses outside Canada need fingerprint-certified results. Our check also does not include convictions recorded by the Canada Border Services Agency or US Customs.

Not sure which you were asked for? Ask the person requesting it whether a name-based criminal record check is acceptable before you order.

FAQ

Saskatchewan criminal record check questions, answered

Can I get a criminal record check in Saskatchewan online?

Yes. The Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Estevan and Weyburn police services take applications online from their own residents, most for an added processing fee of about $10. RCMP detachments generally process them in person. MyCheck is a separate option: a criminal record check you complete entirely online from anywhere in Saskatchewan, issued by an accredited police service after a search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Most MyCheck checks complete in minutes.

Is MyCheck part of the Regina Police Service or the RCMP?

No. MyCheck is a private Canadian provider and is not affiliated with the Regina Police Service, the Saskatoon Police Service, any other police service, the RCMP or the Government of Saskatchewan. If you already started an application with a police service, finish it there. If you have not started yet and need a criminal record check, you can order here.

How much does a criminal record check cost in Saskatchewan?

For a job, city police services charge $35 to $50, and most add a processing fee of about $10 if you apply online. In RCMP-policed communities the municipality sets the fee, for example $25 in Swift Current and $40 in Yorkton. Volunteer checks cost less or nothing at most city services. MyCheck is $39 for Level 1 and $49 for Level 2, with identity verification included in both and no access fee.

How long does a criminal record check take in Saskatchewan?

The Saskatoon Police Service lists about 5 business days, Prince Albert 7 business days, Estevan 5 to 10 business days and Regina 14 days, with no guarantee. RCMP detachments vary. With MyCheck, most checks complete in minutes and the rest are usually back within 4 hours. A small number of cases need fingerprint confirmation, which is done in person and takes longer.

I live on a rural route outside Regina or Saskatoon. Where do I go?

City police only take applications from people who live inside city limits, so rural route addresses go to the RCMP detachment that polices the area. Or skip the trip: a MyCheck criminal record check works the same anywhere in Saskatchewan, because the search is national.

I live in Yorkton, Swift Current or North Battleford. Can I still order?

Yes. Where you live only matters if you need a vulnerable sector check. Then you apply to the RCMP detachment that covers your community, and some ask you to pay at city hall or book ahead first. For a criminal record check for a job, an agency or a lease, you can order online here.

Does Saskatchewan have a child abuse register check?

We could not find a public child abuse register search in Saskatchewan like the ones in Manitoba or Nova Scotia. Organisations in Saskatchewan generally rely on a police vulnerable sector check for people who work with children or vulnerable adults. If an organisation asks you for something else, ask them exactly what they need and where to apply.

I want to coach or volunteer with kids. Which check do I need?

Usually a vulnerable sector check, because the role involves children. The organisation decides, so ask them first. Most city police services charge volunteers little or nothing with a letter from the organisation, and Saskatoon charges volunteer coaches $10 for a vulnerable sector check. MyCheck cannot issue a vulnerable sector check. Read our guide to vulnerable sector checks.

I need a vulnerable sector check. Can you do it?

No. Only police can do a vulnerable sector check, and only the police service that covers where you live. That is your city police service if you live in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, Estevan or Weyburn, and your RCMP detachment almost everywhere else.

What will my result show?

Level 1 shows criminal convictions where no record suspension has been granted. Level 2 adds outstanding charges and warrants, discharges within their disclosure windows, Youth Criminal Justice Act findings and court orders. You declare your own convictions during the process so they can be confirmed against the search.
Understand your result

Can I get a refund?

No. Checks are non-refundable once submitted, which is why this page explains which check you need before you order. If you are unsure between Level 1 and Level 2, ask whoever requested it first.
