Police information check or criminal record check in Alberta?

You will see both terms in Alberta, and they cause confusion. Here is the short version.

Calgary and Edmonton's police services call their document a police information check. Other providers, including MyCheck, issue a criminal record check: a name-based search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Many employers accept either one. If your employer has named a police information check specifically, ask whether a criminal record check is acceptable before you order. It takes 1 email.

Calgary, Edmonton and a few other Alberta cities have their own police services. Most of the rest of the province is policed by the RCMP.
