Three ways to get it

Peel Regional Police, the OPP or MyCheck: what is the difference?

MyCheck is for when you need a criminal record check today, for a job, an agency or a lease. If the organisation asking has named Peel Regional Police, or needs a vulnerable sector check, apply to the police service where you live.

Peel Regional Police fees, process and timing from the Peel Regional Police record checks page, and OPP fees and process from the OPP record checks page, both checked 14 October 2026. OPP turnaround as reported in April 2026. Fingerprints, where needed, cost $52 at Peel Regional Police and $90 at the OPP.

Which police service is yours?

Peel Regional Police or the OPP: who polices where you live?

Peel Regional Police covers Mississauga and Brampton. Caledon, the third municipality in Peel, is policed by the Ontario Provincial Police.

What you get

A police-issued certificate, in your inbox

Your result is a dated certificate in 3 parts, issued by an accredited police service. It goes to you, not to an employer, and you decide who sees it.

  1. 1
Applicant informationThe legal name, date of birth and address the search was run against, and the type of ID used to verify you.
  2. 2
Criminal record checklistThe result, stated against the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Nothing found reads Negative here, and Cleared as the overall result.
  3. 3
Issuing agency informationThe police service that issued it, the date issued, the serial number and the issuing officer's ID. This is what makes it stand up when someone asks where it came from.

A criminal record check is a point-in-time search. It reflects the record on the day it was run.

Understand your resultWhat Negative, Cleared and Review mean on your certificate.
Two levels

Level 1 or Level 2?

If the organisation asking has named a level, order that one. If not, Level 1 is what most job applications ask for. Level 1 answers whether you have a conviction. Level 2 also answers whether anything is currently outstanding. In Ontario, police call the Level 2 equivalent a criminal record and judicial matters check.

A quick check before you order

Which check do you need?

Most jobs, agencies, landlords and general volunteer roles accept a criminal record check, which is what we do. Two other checks get asked for in Peel, and only police or an accredited agency can issue them.

What we do

Criminal record check

Your name and date of birth searched against the RCMP National Repository by an accredited police service. Accepted by most employers, staffing agencies, landlords and general volunteer roles.

Police only

Vulnerable sector check

Roles working with children, seniors or other vulnerable people need a vulnerable sector check. Only the police service where you live can do it: Peel Regional Police in Brampton and Mississauga, the OPP in Caledon. It may involve fingerprints.

Accredited agency

Fingerprint-certified check

Immigration, visa and citizenship applications, record suspensions and most uses outside Canada need fingerprint-certified results. Our check also does not include convictions recorded by the Canada Border Services Agency or US Customs.

Not sure which you were asked for? Ask the person requesting it whether a name-based criminal record check is acceptable before you order.

FAQ

Peel criminal record check questions, answered

Can I get a criminal record check in Peel online?

Yes. With Peel Regional Police it is the only way: all record checks must be submitted online, and online applications take about 10 business days. MyCheck is a separate option: a criminal record check you complete entirely online, issued by an accredited police service after a search of the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records. Most MyCheck checks complete in minutes.

Is this a Peel Regional Police criminal record check?

No. MyCheck is a private Canadian provider and is not affiliated with Peel Regional Police or the OPP. Your certificate is issued by an accredited police service and names it. If your employer has named Peel Regional Police specifically, apply through Peel Regional Police.

Can I apply in person at a Peel police station?

Not at the moment. Peel Regional Police says its Records Services office at 7750 Hurontario Street is closed for in-person service during construction, and all record checks must be submitted online. Fingerprinting, when needed, continues at 11 Division, 3030 Erin Mills Parkway, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

How much does a criminal record check cost in Peel?

Peel Regional Police charges $35 for each check, and $52 for fingerprints when they are needed. Level 1 and Level 2 checks are free for volunteers with a letter from the organisation. In Caledon, the OPP charges $41. MyCheck is $39 for Level 1 and $49 for Level 2, with identity verification included in both and no access fee.

How long does a criminal record check take in Peel?

Peel Regional Police says online applications take about 10 business days, and longer if it has to contact another police service. With MyCheck, most checks complete in minutes and the rest are usually back within 4 hours. A small number need fingerprint confirmation, which is done in person and takes longer.

I live in Caledon. Where do I go?

Caledon is policed by the OPP, not Peel Regional Police, so Peel police cannot do your check. The OPP takes applications online only, at $41 per check. Or order a MyCheck criminal record check, which works the same anywhere in Peel because the search is national.

I do not have a Canadian credit history. Can I still get a check?

Yes. Peel Regional Police verifies identity electronically and needs you to have a bank account and credit history, and it emails you if you do not pass. MyCheck verifies your identity differently: you photograph a government ID and take a short live capture on your phone.

My agency needs it before my start date. How fast is it?

Most MyCheck checks complete in minutes, and the rest are usually back within 4 hours. Have your ID, your most recent Canadian address and a card ready before you start. A small number need fingerprint confirmation, and we tell you straight away if yours does.

I want to coach or volunteer with kids. Which check do I need?

Usually a vulnerable sector check, because the role involves children. The organisation decides, so ask them first. Peel Regional Police charges volunteers $35 for a vulnerable sector check, and waives fingerprinting fees with a volunteer letter. MyCheck cannot issue a vulnerable sector check. Read our guide to vulnerable sector checks.

I need a vulnerable sector check. Can you do it?

No. Only police can issue a vulnerable sector check, and only the police service where you live. That is Peel Regional Police in Brampton and Mississauga, and the OPP in Caledon. Read our guide to vulnerable sector checks.

What will my result show?

Level 1 shows criminal convictions where no record suspension has been granted. Level 2 adds outstanding charges and warrants, discharges within their disclosure windows, Youth Criminal Justice Act findings and court orders. You declare your own convictions during the process so they can be confirmed against the search.
Understand your result

Who sees my result?

You do. The certificate is delivered to you and nobody else. It is not sent to an employer unless you send it.

Can I get a refund?

No. Checks are non-refundable once submitted, which is why this page explains which check you need before you order. If you are unsure between Level 1 and Level 2, ask whoever requested it first.
