Delivery app background checks in Canada, who runs yours

Signing up to deliver with DoorDash, Instacart, Uber Eats or SkipTheDishes? Each delivery app background check is run by the app or a screening company it hires, and a check you buy elsewhere does not replace it. Here is who checks what, and the few cases where your own check does help.

MyCheck is a private Canadian provider of criminal record checks you order for yourself. It is not affiliated with any of these apps.

Check my own record

MyCheck does not replace an app's own background check. Checks are non-refundable once submitted, so see who runs your app's check first.

Who runs your delivery app's background check?

Most apps run the check themselves during sign-up, usually through a screening company. You give consent in the app, and the result goes to the app. Buying your own check does not skip that step.

Where MyCheck fits

When your own check does help

Your own criminal record check will not get you onto an app faster. It is useful in 3 situations.

Before you apply

See your own record first

Not sure what a check will turn up? See what a Canadian criminal record check finds about you before an app or employer does. The app's screening company may search differently, so treat it as a preview, not a pass. $39.

Courier jobs

Delivery jobs that ask for a check

Restaurants, pharmacies and courier companies that hire drivers directly may ask you to bring a criminal record check. Ask which level they need, then order it. Most jobs ask for Level 1.

Your profile

Marketplaces and private clients

Some gig marketplaces and private clients ask independent workers to upload a criminal record check. If they ask for a basic check, Level 1 is it. You decide who sees your certificate.

Delivering for a lab, a clinic, or anyone working with children, seniors or vulnerable people? Those roles usually need a vulnerable sector check from the police where you live, which MyCheck does not offer. Read our guide to vulnerable sector checks.

Start to certificate

How to check your own record online, in 3 steps

  1. 1

    Choose your level and pay

Enter your email, pick Level 1 at $39 or Level 2 at $49, and pay by debit or credit card. If a courier company or marketplace gave you a promo code, enter it at checkout.

  2. 2

    Verify your ID and declare

A link arrives by email. Photograph your government ID, take a short live capture and complete your declaration. Your phone camera is enough.

  3. 3

Keep it, or send it on

An accredited police service searches the RCMP National Repository of Criminal Records through the Canadian Police Information Centre. Most checks complete in minutes. The certificate lands in your inbox as a PDF. Keep it for yourself, or send it to the courier company or client that asked for it.

FAQ

Delivery app background checks, answered

Can I use MyCheck instead of DoorDash's background check?

No. DoorDash runs its own background check through Checkr during sign-up, and a certificate you ordered yourself does not replace it. MyCheck is useful if you want to see your own record first.

Who does Instacart use for background checks in Canada?

Instacart says its screening partners, including Checkr, run criminal and driving record checks and refresh them over time. Outside Ontario, you may be asked to upload your provincial driving record.

Does Uber Eats do a background check in Canada?

Yes. Uber says it uses the screening companies ISB and Triton, and delivering by car adds a driving record check. Uber runs it during sign-up, so a check you order yourself does not replace it.

Does SkipTheDishes accept my own criminal record check?

It may. Skip's older help articles let couriers upload a check from the last 90 days instead of buying one at sign-up. Skip's current sign-up pages do not say, so ask Skip before you order a check for this.

Why check my own record before I apply?

So nothing on it takes you by surprise. MyCheck Level 1 shows criminal convictions where no record suspension has been granted. Treat it as a preview: an app's screening company may search differently, and the app makes its own decision.

Which check should I order for a courier or delivery job?

The one the employer asks for. Most jobs ask for a Level 1 criminal record check. If the posting mentions a criminal record and judicial matters check, order Level 2. If the job involves children, seniors or vulnerable people, you usually need a vulnerable sector check from police instead. Read about checks for a job.

Does MyCheck include a driving record?

No. MyCheck is a criminal record check only. Delivery apps and courier jobs that need your driving record, sometimes called a driver's abstract, ask for it separately, and you order it from your province.

How much does MyCheck cost?

$39 for Level 1 and $49 for Level 2, with identity verification included and no access fee. Most checks complete in minutes.

Is MyCheck affiliated with these apps?

No. MyCheck is run by Credibled, a private Canadian provider. We name these apps only to explain how their background checks work. Follow what your app tells you during sign-up.

Can I get a refund?

No. Checks are non-refundable once submitted, which is why this page explains when your own check helps and when it does not.
